Have a Cabin in the Woods?

WE CAN PLANT FOR YOU

This spring, Rett Schmidt contacted the Sugar Pine Foundation about purchasing and planting seedlings at his new cabin in Pinecrest, CA. He wanted the seedlings delivered in July, when he and his family would be vacationing at their new property. We were thrilled that he wanted to plant sugar pines but, unfortunately, we knew that July is not a good time to plant!

When SPF Program Director and expert tree planter Tressa Gibbard realized that she could easily visit their property in May while the soil would still be moist and perfect for planting, she arranged to bring seedlings with her to Pinecrest and to get the trees in the ground for the Schmidts.

Rett generously offered to help compensate for the travel and labor in addition to the cost of the seedlings, so it was a good deal for all involved!

After surveying the lot for utility lines and space limitations and planting the trees accordingly, Tressa sent Rett a report and photos. Rett wrote: "I am grateful you looked after us. I probably would have not taken into account the power lines, and planted them too close to one another, as well as the cabin."

We were glad to be able to help the Schmidts out - and realized from the experience that perhaps others might like to employ our planting expertise.

If you have a cabin or property in the mountains within reasonable distance of Tahoe and want help with planting, let us know!

Sugar pines thrive in the Sierra foothills and up in to the mountains from about 2,000 to 7,000 feet elevation. They are found from southern Oregon all the way down to the Sierra San Pedro Martir in Baja California - so, basically, throughout California!

The best time to plant is in the spring (April-May) and the fall (Oct-Nov) - and that is when we have plenty of seedlings available, too.

Many thanks to Rett and Molly Schmidt for introducing us to this new opportunity and for allowing us to share this success story!
