What we do

We search for pines resistant to blister rust and collect their cones by climbing trees or using a slingshot
We send our cones to the US Forest Service, who test our trees for Major Gene Resistance to blister rust
We’ve already found 70 trees with Major Gene Resistance to blister rust in the Tahoe Basin!
Each year we harvest their cones so that we can plant their resistant offspring the following year
We conduct plantings with hundreds of community volunteers and schoolchildren every spring and fall
We also share our work through community outreach and education in schools around the Tahoe Basin
Our plantings, events, and educational programs inspire environmental stewardship throughout the community
We monitor our seedlings’ health through regular visits to inform future restoration plantings
