Cone Collections Under the Rainbow

15 New Candidate Trees!

September is when cones are ripe for the picking.  We collect cones when they are still green - before they've dropped their seed - and send them to the USFS Nursery in Placerville for resistance testing to find new seed trees.  We were invited to collect cones at Homewood for the first time ever this year.  Despite some rainstorms, we harvested cones from 10 new western white pine trees and 5 new sugar pines.  If we're lucky, the cones Edric harvested "under the rainbow" may prove to be resistant seed trees for future restoration!

YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE OUR NEW WEBSITE

We've been busy overhauling our website this summer.  It's a project that has been long overdue and we can't wait to unveil our sleek new site soon!  We're still polishing up the Calendar and making sure all of our links works correctly, but will launch any day now!
The new, improved sugarpinefoundation.org experience will be at the same address.  We're certain that you'll love the modern look and feel of the updated site when it goes live!
Huge thanks to our very talented Catchafire volunteer Tim Briggs for doing the web design! And thanks to Patagonia for giving us free access to Catchafire.
