Program Manager Position Description
Position Overview
As our North Tahoe / Truckee Program Manager, you'll play a crucial role in expanding our impact and engaging the community in hands-on forest conservation. You will be working closely with our Executive Director who is located in South Lake Tahoe. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a meaningful impact in environmental conservation while maintaining flexibility in their work schedule.
Hours: Part-time, 10-20 hours/week initially, more hours in the spring and fall during planting season and less hours in the winter
Growth Potential: Opportunity to increase hours and responsibilities as projects expand
Location: Varies seasonally. About 60% remote, at times with frequent travel around Lake Tahoe, with focus on North Tahoe / Truckee for events and seasonal spring and fall plantings.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management and Implementation (30%)
Coordinate with partners like the United States Forest Service and nonprofits to develop and implement reforestation plans, including post-fire restoration projects
Lead seasonal plantings, tree watering, and cone collections
Teach forestry related stations and school field trips
Lead interpretive guided hikes, snowshoe walks and similar outdoor events
Community Engagement and Outreach (30%)
Write newsletters and blog, post on social media
Represent SPF at community events such as tabling at Earth Day
Grant Writing and Donor Relations (20%)
Draft grant proposals and reports to support our conservation efforts
Support donor outreach and acknowledgment
Administrative Support (20%)
Monitor and respond to general inquiries
Process online store orders
Assist with various administrative tasks as needed
Required Qualifications
Strong interest in forest conservation and environmental education
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with social media platforms
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various sites in the Truckee/North Tahoe area
Physical ability to navigate off-trail terrain, including areas with bushes and recent burn areas
Capability to carry a 30 lbs backpack
Comfort with working outdoors in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, forestry, non-profit management, or related field
2+ years of experience in program management, preferably in the environmental sector
Experience leading outdoor education programs or volunteer events
Grant writing experience
Ability to edit a website on Squarespace
