Hi, everyone! I’m so excited to join the SPF staff. What an amazing opportunity to have a significant impact on restoration in the Tahoe Truckee area.

I moved to Truckee back in 1995 after graduating from U.C. Davis, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Biology and Management and a minor in Botany. My experience over the past 30 years has focused on watershed stewardship, ecological restoration, community building and nonprofit development. I am passionate about educating and engaging community members in the protection of our natural resources and open spaces.

During my first year up here, I worked at Donner Memorial State Park in the summer and taught skiing at Northstar that winter. My first year-long gig was an AmeriCorps position with the Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships working with kids and teachers in the Tahoe Truckee School District to monitor the watershed and restore wildlife habitat.

From 2007-2018, I lived in South Lake Tahoe, spending nine of those years working for the Alpine Watershed Group. For the past four years, I was with the California Trails Conference Foundation, helping plan the annual California Trails & Greenways conference. My recreational activities include hiking, backpacking, biking, and skiing. I am a novice writer and also enjoy reading and playing piano.

I’ve always had a strong interest in tree planting and forest health, given the history of human impacts and serious tree mortality situations. Some of the student field projects I’ve done have involved assessing monitoring tree health. While living in South Lake Tahoe, I got to know Maria and the SPF which has allowed me to get more active in forest stewardship.

As North Tahoe Truckee Program Manager, I will be based out of my home office in Truckee, working with natural resource managers and other community partners and volunteers to implement forest restoration projects. Please email me (sarah@...) to say hi and introduce yourself!
