Celebrate Solstice and Sugar Pines!
Happy Summer, After a Super Spring! You can celebrate Summer Solstice on June 21, knowing that 7,070 new seedlings are in the ground and groovin' to grow! Despite seemingly unending rain and snow, we had a wildly successful spring planting season: soil conditions were fantastic thanks to all the moisture, volunteer spirits were high, and (by some miracle) the rain held off whenever we were planting! We expect that growing conditions will be ideal for some time, but stay tuned for when we need help on the bucket brigades - watering! - once the summer aridity sets in. Check our Calendar or Facebook page to stay on top of volunteer opportunities. Thanks! |

Featured Hike!
Cowboy Hat and Warr Trail Loop
Finding a great new hike to enjoy around Lake Tahoe is not a hard thing to do. There are always awesome new places to explore. But a hike with great sugar pines, western white pines AND gobstopping lake views within a mile?! We think that it really doesn't get much better than that!
Hiking to Cowboy Hat Rock - which happens to be surrounded by majestic sugar pines and western whites - to take in the lake views is a quick backyard jaunt for many Meyers residents. You can make a full loop, circa 5 miles, by following the Cowboy Traverse and connecting it to the Warr Trail. The scenic side trip to Cowboy Hat Rock is short and very sweet: well worth it!
The rather informal trailhead is at the end of Elmwood Dr, just beyond where it intersects with Pinewood Dr. The trail almost immediately splits and if you're doing the loop, it won't matter which direction you choose. For a shorter out-and-back to Cowboy Hat, go left. Check out the map and your GPS, then go check this fave "local's secret" hike out for yourself! It's a great way to celebrate Summer! Enjoy!
